International Conference
The Role of Theatre in Contemporary Society University of Westminster 14-15 May 2010
309 Regent Street, London W1B 2UW
Organised by Marco Valleriani in collaboration with Paola Monte and Professor Christopher Cairns
Little more than 40 years ago, Dario Fo brought Mistero Buffo to the stage, a play with the declared aim of having a deep effect in society and contributing to changing the cultural status quo of those days. Taking into account Dario Fo’s point of view, and focusing on themes of food and theatrical narration from Commedia dell’Arte to present days, the aim of the Conference is to establish what role theatre can still have in the production of narrative styles and cultural models – and their related consumption – relevant in contemporary society.
At the end of each day of presentations, the conference will host a performance by actor, author and director Eugenio de’ Giorgi.
